Cork & Fota Wildlife Park, July 16th

We’re heading back to Cork! From our very first trip back in October of 2013, and another little jaunt over Christmas in 2015, we’ve been itching to get back to Cork City, and here we go!

This time it’s a trip with a bit of a difference, with all the luxury and opulance you’d expect of a 4* Hotel, minutes from Cork City and everything it has to offer, and while you’re there you’ll be spending one day at Fota Wildlife Park on Fota Island!

Arrive at your leisure on Monday July 16th and check into your very comfortable and spacious bedroom for the next two nights. One evening meal is included during your stay, which you should enjoy the first evening so you can plan the following day with the rest of the group. After a filling freshly cooked breakfast on Tuesday morning, it’s time to head to Fota Island!

Your passes for the the entire day to enjoy all the animals, activities, wildlife, nature and countless attractions in the park. Fota Wildlife Park, part of the Zoological Society of Ireland, is located on 100 acres at Fota Island 10km east of Cork City and has an annual attendance of 440,000 visitors. It is currently the second largest visitor attraction in Ireland outside of Leinster.

Fota Wildlife Park’s vision is to inspire people to understand and conserve the biodiversity of our natural world. The Park’s core values of conservation, education, research and entertainment have ensured that we are uniquely placed to foster greater public understanding of the threats to plant and animal habitats and decreasing global biodiversity.

Home to thousands of animals since it first opened its gates, Fota Wildlife Park’s primary objective is to provide the highest possible standard of care, housing and quality of life for all of its species, both native and exotic. Get up close to amazing animals and birds from all five continents.

Parking is available adjacent to Fota Wildlife Park’s main entrance and costs €3, with funds raised helping to maintain the nearby Fota House & Gardens. While inside, our Fota Wildlife Park TourTrain can bring visitors around the Park (seasonal schedule) and wheelchairs are also available on loan. For refreshments and meals choose from the Savannah Cafe near the entrance, Oasis Cafe at the opposite end of the park, the Serengeti Gift Store and a HB Swirls Stand for that treat while you’re on your holidays.

Though animals are central to everything that happens at Fota, there is plenty more to see and do once you arrive. Children are free to enjoy the play areas dotted around the Park and are invited to take part in the activities organised right throughout the year, including arts & crafts and face painting.

Visitors can see animals feeding and foraging for food while they enjoy a walk around the beautiful surrounds of Fota Island itself. Our specially constructed Cheetah Run is proving to be particularly popular as crowds can witness the speed and power that makes the Cheetah such an incredible predator in the wild.

Transport can be arranged for the group on request if you’d all like to travel together from the hotel to Fota Island, but it’s not difficult to find so it’s a very quick and easy drive from the hotel. Stay for dinner in Fota Wildlife Park on Tuesday evening or head back to the hotel in time for a bite to eat and maybe a quick swim before you fall into bed after a fabulous Fota Fun Filled day out.

If you can find any spare time while you’re here, you have full access to the hotel leisure centre, with Jacuzzi, fully equipped gym, children’s pool and Sauna, not to mention the Thalassotherapy Suite which offers an ideal place to unwind, restore and to invigorate the body and mind.

This is more than a mere chance to relax, rejuvenate and refresh, as the highly trained therapists provide a blend of traditional and modern treatments to bring you to the place of ultimate serenity.

  1. Can I have more details please. Any extra charge for teenagers. 16 and 18.
    I have a 12 yr old too

    • Hi Trina, I have just updated the page to reflect the teen supplement, of €25-30 per teen which upgrades them to adults meal menus rather than the kiddie menus. This also covers the additional cost of the ticket to Fota, unless they can present a Student ID at reception of Fota to avail of the discount. If you’d like the booking details sent on just let me know!
