Glamping on Cape Clear Island is a unique, peaceful and adventurous opportunity to leave the mainland and your worries behind. Being Ireland’s most southerly Irish speaking inhabited island, situated some 8 miles off the coast of West Cork, makes Cape a pretty special place for your holiday.

Take the 45 minute ferry trip from Baltimore and relax amongst the romantic scenery, while absorbing the tranquil beauty of the island, with its rolling hills and shimmering harbours. Visitors do not normally bring their cars over to the island although it is possible, by prior arrangement but this would be weather-permissible and is not economically viable for your island holiday. We have included the shuttle to the campsite on arrival to the island, the bus meets each and every ferry and takes you directly to the campsite, so there’s no fear of having to hike and struggle with all your luggage before your holiday starts.

There are two options for your accommodation, a Mongolian Yurt or Bell Tent. For additional comfort choose the Yurt, with soft furnishings, large scatter cushions, beanbags, real beds and log-burning stove – you can picture it now can’t you?

Star-gazing through the top clear circle of the yurt, sitting out on the decking on balmy evenings or chatting round the stove, the peace and tranquility of the island will envelope you. Evenings in a yurt are an experience not easily beaten for cosiness and comfort!

In each Yurt you’ll find fresh linen and cosy duvets, with pillows, on a double bed and on two single beds if required. Your stove set and ready to light with extra fuel for your first night. Gas cooker with all cooking utensils, pans, cutlery and crockery. Fire extinguisher and fire blanket for your safety. Solar powered lighting and a cool box for perishables.

You can also choose a more minimally furnished Bell Tent/Tipi for your stay, which have a built in groundsheet, slim camping mats, rugs, snuggle blankets and cushions. You will need to bring your own bedding and cool box with ice packs. Onsite are Solar heated hot water with wet room showers and separate toilets, and of course all the fresh air and open Atlantic views that you could wish for.

Awaken in your Yurt or Belltent to the sound of waves gently lapping at rocks below you, then cast back the door to the amazing views across the sparkling waters of South Harbour to the hills with their quaint meandering roads and stone built walls, showered with wild flowers and gorse.

The next few days are all yours, to spend however you wish, do absolutely nothing while the children enjoy the freedom of the beautiful island, or choose from the many activities and adventures available.

We have included a tour of the island, which runs every hour on the hour, beginning at noon, and takes you around the circumference of Cape Clear Island to show you amazing views, walks, and gives you an idea of just how unique this little island is. Take the tour whenever suits you, but we’d suggest after a leisurely breakfast on the first day of your holiday.

Also included is a visit to the wonderful Goat Farm with an ice cream for everyone. Cléire Goats visitor farm has ice cream and cheese for sale, and you can meet the goats and see milkings between 10 and 12 daily.

Another treat for you during your stay is a visit to Mara Farm, where you can meet Kerry Cows, Tamworth Pigs and Kerry Bog Ponies, then after your tour of the farm you can sit in the farm cafe and enjoy home-cooked scones and a cup of tea or coffee.

There is so much to do in and around this island, you should decide before you go what you might want to do so you can also leave plenty of time for relaxation. The heritage Centre, Bird Watching or The Fastnet Rock Tour which is a fascinating day trip including a boat trip around this majestic and isolated island, known as the ‘Ireland’s Teardrop’.

You can also enjoy some Whale Watching, all kinds of Water Sports, and the bustling atmosphere of the harbour, where the calm waters reveal a beautiful beach when the tide retreats.

North Harbour is a busy, bustling meeting point for the island ferry, for Saun Ruas’ Restaurant incorporating the island shop, or for Cotters Bar to down a cool pint. Live entertainment can often be found in Club Chleire and impromptu sessions of local musicians to join in with. There is a craft shop to purchase those mementos and presents made by the islanders, for those unlucky enough not to have come on holiday with you.

For eating out you can choose from Cotters Bar, a traditional Irish Pub serving food & drink, or Sean Rua’s Restaurant along with An Siopa Beag, Cape Clear Islands grocery shop, just a two minute stroll when you disembark the ferry. An Siopa Beag caters for all your grocery needs including locally produced vegetables, newspapers, phone credit and it is the An Post Agent for the island. Séan Rua’s Restaurant produce’s traditional home made food which is served all day.

There is also a Tourist Office with Craft Shop, with a range of brochures and maps so you can make the most of your stay, and Harpercraft, located upstairs next to Cotters Bar, is a wonderful Gift & Craft Shop with a range of original design postcards, t-shirts, homemade ice-cream and cheese, and a second-hand book exchange to raise funds for Irish Guide Dogs.
