Malta, October 2016

This Halloween, head to a spectacular island for a few nights and soak up some sun while you’re at it. If you’re like me, the closest you’ve come to Malta is when you see their video intro during the Eurovision Song Contest, but now you can say you’ve been there!

A very small island means everything is within 30 minutes of your hotel, but mostly right on your doorstep. Children’s Play Centres, lots of lovely beaches, beautiful architecture, old town villages and modern facilities all within your reach.

Check into this beautiful hotel with stunning views over the bay, centrally located in the town of Gzira and just a short walk from Sliema, one of Malta’s most popular shopping areas with an array of shops, restaurants and pubs to suit everyone. Bus stops and local transport is inexpensive and easily accessible with stops just outside the hotel, so you’re never short of something to do for a day out.

The hotel offers different rooms types, with sea-view, side sea-view and inland view all available, although a small supplement is payable for the beautiful views, you might find it’s just worth it to wake up to this every morning while it rains away back home.

Each room offers beds for twin, triple or quad occupancy, have a private balcony, Air Conditioning and ensuite bathroom with bath or shower. Daily cleaning, daily towel change, and linen change every three days will make you feel like you’re properly in the lap of luxury.

There are a number of bars and restaurants onsite and in the immediate vicinity to choose from, and although your rooms don’t have kitchen facilities, take-away is inexpensive and delicious so you won’t be spending the earth for your daily meals.

The hotel has a roof-top swimming pool with spectacular views, but the indoor pool is also available with it’s own views from poolside, along with a Jacuzzi, Wellness Centre, Internet Cafe, Kids play area and Games Room, Internet Cafe and Gym.

For a day out we have loads of suggestions, starting with the coolest of all, Popeye Village! This is the original set for the 1980 musical production of ‘Popeye’, and it is just jam-packed full of colourful and fun activities, characters, buildings, shops and entertainment for all ages.

Concessions may be available, depending on how large the One Parent Holidays Group is, but even without a discount it’s great value for money. For €10.50 per adult and €8.50 per child, you can enjoy a variety of animation shows, access to the comic museum, 15min boat trip around Anchor Bay, silver smith demonstrations, entrance to Santa’s Toy Town, and so much more!

They pride themselves on celebrating annual festivities, so prepare for a Spooky Halloween and plan to be here for Monday night excitement, it’ll be a Halloween the children won’t soon forget! Approximately 30mins in a taxi will take you right to the Park Entrance, with more along the way to make the day out a full one.

On the south side of the island is Playmobil Fun Park. Indoor themed areas for the children to play with a range of figures and play sets allow the imagination to run wild as they create their own world, while outside there are water-based activities, sand pit, a playhouse and life-sizes Playmobil animals stretched over 2,000 square metres.

For some indoor action you can try Eden Super Bowl, with amenities for kids of all ages, and even Disco Bowling for the older children, this is an easy stop to make just minutes from the hotel.

Another fantastic spot is Funland. It’s located in the Piazza Cascata, just a few minutes from your hotel, and has four floors of fun and games for all ages. Designed with child safety in mind, Funland has a 5D Theatre, Kids Indoor Playground, Billiards & Snooker Tables, Soft Toy Soft, Bubble Shooter, and the best of all, a Trampoline.

So now that the kids are taken care of, it’s time to see the sights. Choose a different beach every day, all are just gorgeous with white sand and stunning coastal views.

Outside activities for the more adventurous include Rock Climbing, Scuba Diving, Surfing and Sailing, with a ferry to take you to surrounding islands for day trips.
